Dr. Aravinda Lochani has completed her Fellowship in Neonatology (recognized by National Neonatology Forum) in 2021 from Ankura Hospital for Women & Children, KPHB. She completed her DNB (Pediatrics) in 2014 from South Central Railway Hospital, Lallaguda, Secunderabad. She completed her MBBS from Guntur Medical College, Guntur in 2010 (affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences).

  • Dr. Aravinda Lochani has over 10 years of experience in Pediatrics and Neonatology, having worked across various corporate and government establishments in Hyderabad. She is also trained in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). After her post-graduation, she completed her Senior Residency at Niloufer Hospital for Women and Child Health, Hyderabad.
  • She is experienced in working across various corporate and government establishments in Hyderabad in the field of Pediatrics and Neonatology.   • After working as a Registrar in Pediatrics in Rainbow Hospital, Citizens Hospital, and Ankura Hospital, she worked as a Junior Consultant – Pediatrics in Care Hospital, Hitech city.
  • In view of special interest in Neonatology, she pursued a fellowship course in Neonatology from Ankura Hospital for women and children KPHB.

Expertise in Neonatology:

  • Experienced in independently treating all kinds of level 3 NICU babies including extreme preterms (25 weeks and above), growing preterms as well as sick, asphyxiated, and ventilated babies
  • Trained in invasive and various non-invasive modes of ventilation as well as using inhaled Nitric Oxide.
  • Ability to independently execute various NICU procedures like intubation, surfactant administration (INSURE and LISA), umbilical arterial & vein catheterization, PICC line placement, peripheral arterial line placement, ICD (Intercostal drainage) insertion, Abdominal paracentesis, TPN preparation, and double volume & partial exchange transfusion
  • Successfully trained in performing point-of-care cardiac, cranial, lung, and vascular ultrasounds for neonates (NNF SONIC, NfEcho).
  • Experienced in executing neonatal resuscitation as per NRP guidelines
  • Experienced in coordinating the safe transport of critically ill NICU babies from various peripheral hospitals

Fever In Newborn

Normal body temperature is 98.6 F or 37 C (+/- 0.5 C). Any body temperature greater than 99.5 F or 37. 5 C is termed as fever in newborns. Fever is the body’s defense mechanism that helps to fight infection or inflammation. How to measure fever: By using a digital thermometer in the axilla (armpit) or with the help of an infrared thermometer which measures the skin temperature (usually measured from the forehead) Causes of fever:  Dehydration (due to poor feeding) Hot environment or proximity to sunlight Wrapping the baby in too many clothes Infection Postvaccination Maternal fever at the time of delivery Symptoms: The baby may be irritable, appear flushed, have either fast breathing or decreased breathing efforts, have dull activity, abnormal tone, and decreased intake of feeds Untreated fever or infection may lead to seizures and has increased risk of mortality.  What to do when your baby has fever: First unwrap the baby and keep the baby in a normal environment (25-28 C). Try to give breastfeed/expressed breast milk as spoon feed to the baby. Recheck the temperature after 20-30 minutes.  If baby’s temperature
